Siegel+Gale, a leading global strategic branding agency, conducted a survey of more than 2,900 consumers in nine countries to understand their preferences for food and beverage packaging. As a result, glass packaging stood out among many packaging types and became the most popular form of packaging for consumers - 93.5% of respondents preferred glass bottles of wine, and 66% preferred bottled non-alcoholic beverages.

The reason why consumers think that glass materials are better than other packaging materials is mainly because it has the five characteristics of high purity, strong safety, good quality, multiple functions and recycling.

Although consumers prefer glass containers, such packaging may struggle to appear on store shelves in large numbers. The results of the food packaging survey show that 91% of consumers say they prefer glass packaging, but in the food industry, glass packaging only accounts for about 10% of the market share.

According to O-I company introduction, the scale of the application of glass packaging on the market has not reached the expectations of customers, mainly for two reasons, one is that the consumer's preferred brand does not use glass packaging; The second is that the stores most frequently visited by consumers do not use glass containers for packaging.

In addition, other survey data also reflects the consumer's preference for a certain type of food packaging. According to the data, 84% of respondents prefer beer in glass containers, which is particularly obvious in European countries. Consumer demand for canned food in glass packaging is also relatively strong.

Ninety-one percent of consumers surveyed prefer glass-wrapped foods, particularly in Latin American countries (95 percent). In addition, glass is the preferred form of packaging for drinking alcohol consumers, which is favored by 98% of consumers.
